Harsh Winter Weather Systems Take 5 Lives in Gaza Amidst Dire Conditions in Temporary Shelters.

Powerful cold-season winds caused walls to collapse upon flimsy shelters housing Palestinians displaced by war in Gaza, claiming the lives of no fewer than four individuals. This tragedy underscores the dangerous situation that persist after over 24 months of devastating airstrikes and critical shortages of aid.

Truce Provides No Relief from Harsh Elements

While a truce has been in effect from October, humanitarian organizations report that residents broadly lack the adequate shelter required to withstand recurring winter storms.

Officials at Shifa hospital, which took in the bodies, reported on this week that the deceased were a pair of adult females, a girl, and a man.

Separately, the Gaza health ministry announced on the same day that a 12-month-old infant succumbed of hypothermia overnight.

"The world has allowed us to witness death in every possible way," said Bassel Hamouda following the funeral. "While it is correct the bombing may have paused for now, but we have witnessed all imaginable reasons of fatality in the world in the Gaza Strip."

Family Buried in Shelter Collapse

According to Shifa hospital, three people of a single household — 72-year-old a man, his teenage granddaughter, and his daughter-in-law — were fatally injured when an eight-metre high wall collapsed on top of their tent in a coastal area of the city. No fewer than 5 additional people were hurt in the event.

Family members on Tuesday started removing the rubble that had entombed their loved ones and rebuilding the temporary homes for those who remained.
