Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed missile attacks across the region in response for a large-scale and ongoing attack against it by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone near the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any impact is unclear and the US has yet to issue a statement.
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - said they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their airspace.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on Iran launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted areas linked to the the regime, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to rise up against the government.
In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the missiles with notable success and shot down a number of missiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported missile fragments landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and fatalities.
The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
