New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.
Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was âpositiveâ during their recent conversation.
âThat gives me comfort, is that his mood is upbeat,â Glenn stated on Wednesday. âHis family, they are holding up and he will walk away from this just fine.â
It remained unclear when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where he has been listed as in critical but steady condition.
âNot certain at the moment,â he added. âHowever, I can share, from our conversation, his attitude was encouraging. Once more, that reassures me, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.â
NYPD shared security footage earlier this week of an individual wanted in the incident involving Boyd. What prompted the attack is currently under review and police mentioned it is unknown if Boyd was singled out. There were no additional victims as confirmed by officials.
The attack took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning about halfway between Madison Square Garden and the iconic square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was transported to Bellevue Hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, police said. The shooter fled the scene.
Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind âa great dealâ since the news broke. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse just had a baby.
âWhat immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,â Glenn said. âMy mind went to his family, Iâm thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that heâs OK. That was my main concern.
âThereâs a process to this, that I wonât detail, but I am pleased that he will recover excellently.â
Boyd did not participate this season, his first with the Jets, after his season was cut short due to injury on August 18 with a shoulder injury that needed an operation.
He joined the Jets as a new signing in spring and was projected as an important component of the teamâs updated special teams under the coach and ST coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during preseason drills on August 2 and was carted from the field.
Boyd has remained around the team all season long while recovering from the shoulder injury.
âHeâs been a part of what weâre doing,â Glenn said. âIn fact, he is a regular at our matches. He is completely involved. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.â
Boyd, a Texas native, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and moved to Houstonâs squad subsequently. Boyd signed a one-year contract valued at $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
