The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Debates Over Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Recently, the game developers introduced a new playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features several key adjustments:

  • Each team has just 8 real players, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities performed by human gamers award complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.

In short, the playlist delivers on its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives more options for players seeking different methods to enjoy the title. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Community Responses: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while another details everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. A response via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Player Input

All that said, players have constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?

Should the development team has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
