The Red Devils Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
